I made this post process shader just for fun, and to see if I could do it. I haven’t played Valkyria Chronicles yet, but it’s on my to-do list. I saw a let’s play on YouTube, thought the game had a pretty look to it, and I figured I would try recreating their shader. I think it turned out pretty well.

In essence, this shader consists of three parts: The paper texture, the paintbrush texture, and finding the shadows where you’ll overlay the paintbrush texture:

It looks like Valkyria Chronicles also does something with blending to the paper texture along the edges. I don’t think that would be too hard to do. You would just need to add a mask and a final lerp before hooking it up to emissive.

I don’t think I’ll be using this shader in Himeko Sutori.  I already decided to go with the pixel aesthetic, and combining it with the hand-drawn look might be too much.  I’ll keep trying things out and see how they look.
